I’m not a big fan of racing bikes these days but I am a fan of having a good time. Single speed events are always fun because people are not there to win. These events are a great fit for Surly. Single Speed USA at Levis Mound Wisconsin was no exception.
I met so many great people and caught up with old friends. Big ups to the folks that put this on. A huge undertaking to say the least. The location was absolutely perfect. A rural mountain bike trail system that mixed both single track and xc ski trails. The views and trails were amazing lined with bluffs, rocks, roots, and Ewok forests featuring ribbons of wooden bridges throughout. If you were tired or just wanted to chill at an aid station, have some pickles and wash it down with a few beers. Another reason why single speed events are rad.
I new I would have more fun ridding my bike rather than taking pictures, so I have no photos from the actual ride. I did however take pictures of some of the other festivities which included a beer crit. Riders had to ride a lap then chug a beer, ride a lap eat peanut butter. This went on for more then seven laps. Was there puking? Yes! Other events that went down were the derbies, firework infused bonfires, old time finger picking music and more beer. Here are a few shots I took.
See you next year in PA!
